Save Oratia Gallery

We’re unreasonably excited to announce that our pop-up gallery celebrating Oratia in the city is now open!

Please feel free to call in over the next couple of weeks to view Stephen Roke’s powerful exhibition of photographs of our people and see the video for Graeme Gash’s Oratia Anthem, then settle down in the big red couch to read Graeme’s story in Metro magazine, Shaun Craill’s exceptional comic strip and a compilation of your own personal Oratia stories. You can also stock up on Save Oratia T-shirts, badges and bumper stickers, sample feijoas and apples fresh from the valley and enjoy a glass of Oratia apple juice.

The gallery is at 31 Remuera Rd, Newmarket, and its opening hours are 7am to 2pm Monday to Friday. There will also be a Family Day this Saturday 20 May from 10am to 4pm, with balloons, facepainting, feijoa lollies and other treats. The gallery is straight across the road from the Newmarket train station, so it’s a fun family outing to bring your kids in on the train. Don’t forget to wear your Save Oratia tees!

Hello neighbours ... just wanted to share a wee moment with you all 🙂. Over the last few nights my family have been lighting the lights in the tiny houses down at the church and turning them off at around 10 pm. These beautiful wee houses were the amazing idea and creation of Tulsi ,Danielle and the Save Oratia team. For me they are the perfect symbol of what our fight was all about.... thank you so much ..... Tulsi you are amazing !!!
Tonight when we went down to switch off the lights, Stephen just started with the first light "goodnight Gash whanau" and then "goodnight Masons"... "good night Williams whanau" .... and so it went on .... the Goldsmiths ... the Campbells.... the Viskovich family .... Julian and Sue .... Pranil and Gitsha .... "goodnight Watts whanau"... "goodnight Wrights" .....and so it went ...with us saying goodnight to all our neighbours.
Needless to say they were happy tears!!!!
Goodnight Oratia 😘...sleep tight xxx
